7 Ways to Clean with Baking Soda

Despite its name, baking soda isn’t just for baking – it’s also an excellent cleaner. Not only can it be used to clean just about every surface in your home, but it is also a great alternative to chemical-containing commercial cleaners. In this blog post, we will discuss seven different ways that you can use baking soda to help get everything in your home sparkling clean. Let’s get started!

1) Remove Stuck-On Food in the Oven

Baking soda can be a great way to help scrape the stuck-on food residue out of your oven. Simply make a paste out of a cup of baking soda, a cup of salt, and a cup of water, and then apply it to the inside of your oven. Let it sit for a few hours, and then rinse or wipe it away with a damp cloth.

2) Clean Fruits and Veggies

If you’re looking for a chemical-free way to clean your fruits and vegetables, look no further than baking soda. Simply add a teaspoon of baking soda to a bowl of water and soak your produce for a few minutes. Rinse it off with clean water and enjoy!

3) Banish Stains from Plastic Food Containers

Those of us who have tried storing tomato sauce in plastic food containers know a thing or two about these stubborn stains! Fortunately, a little baking soda may be able to make these fade away, if not banish them completely. For those tough stains, soak your container in a mixture of about a quart of water and four tablespoons of baking soda. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse away with clean water. Ta-da!

4) Disinfect Your Laundry

You may not be able to use it as a substitute for laundry detergent, but baking soda can certainly enhance its effectiveness! Not only is it an excellent natural disinfectant and germicide, but it can also help eliminate stains and foul-smelling odors. Just add about a teaspoon of baking soda to the detergent or directly into the drum, and you should be good to go.

5) Neutralize Fridge and Freezer Odors

Speaking of stenches, you can also use baking soda to neutralize any odors coming out of your fridge or freezer. Simply place an open container of baking soda inside, and it should be able to absorb any unwanted smells. Just make sure to change it out every few months or so.

6) Clean the Floors

Looking for a way to clean your floors that is both effective and safe for the environment? Look no further than baking soda! Simply add half a cup of baking soda to a bucket of warm water and give the floors a good mop. Note: avoid using this on hardwood or other types of wax-treated floors, as it may damage the finish.

7) Unclog Drains

If you’re dealing with a slow or clogged drain, baking soda may be able to help. Just pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by half a cup of vinegar. Allow the bubbling mixture to sit for at least a few minutes, then flush with hot water. This should help clear away any unwanted buildup in your pipes.
